Episode 1: What the heck is the Good Chives Only gardening podcast?

A podcast for seasoned and novice gardeners alike.

Why start a gardening podcast?

The expression in the photo above probably says it all. I started this podcast because gardening brings me joy. The planning, the research, the planting, the pruning—all of it. I live in Zone 7A so winters feel a bit longer than I would like them to. In the midst of the gray winters, I found that talking about gardening gave me almost as much joy as actually gardening.

My love for gardening started generations ago.

As I mention in the podcast, we live in the home that my mom and uncles grew up in. My grandparents purchased the home in the 1950’s. So my family has been gardening on our ¼ of an acre plot for 70 years. I know I have my grandparents to thank for our very healthy soil and beautiful lilac bushes and Pin Oak tree. And I have to thank my mom for introducing me to gardening from the get go.

With the family history of gardening, it’s needless to say my connection with caring for the earth is more than a hobby, it’s a connection to the past, present and future.

We all have the power to make a difference from our own space.

Whether your space is hundreds of acres, a small yard in the suburbs, or a small window in your apartment, your actions can make a difference. My hope is that this podcast inspires you to plant a native flower for your local pollinators or work with your local municipality to change ordinances for the better.
